The Strawberry Patch with Many Purposes

My SO is updating our guest bathroom. My job is to keep Trinity out of the house so that he can work, but our backyard has no shade, so we have been searching for a patio umbrella.

Trinity and I have been playing "find and pick" in the backyard with our strawberry patch. She has a ball looking for the red ones and picking them as she finds them. I get so much joy out of watching her get excited whenever she finds a ripen strawberry.

The little strawberry patch was started last summer. It had a rough start, and we hardly saw any fruit last year. This summer we have some ripen strawberries to pick, and today, you're seeing a multiple of strawberry plants that are very healthy!

I just love the feeling of knowing we are consuming fruit from out own backyard!

Strawberry plants are very easy to grow, and make delicious smoothies. My kids are crazy about strawberry smoothie, and they often make their own from the recipe below. I wished we had more homegrown strawberries, because the supply from our little patch isn't enough to satisfy their taste. As such, this might be calling for a strawberry patch expansion next year.

Recipe: 4 cups strawberries, 2 cups ice cubes, 2 cups French Vanilla cream, 4 cups strawberry ice cream. Blend them all together until smooth. If it’s too sweet for you, cut down on the cream.

I am pleased that you came by to visit today. If you have any thoughts please comment below. Thank you~

  1. Well, of course, a strawberry smoothie would be delicious...I think it would also be nice combined with fresh peaches once they are available in the stores...yummy!!

  3. You have a strawberry patch? Lucky you! This won't do for us, since the squirrels will eat them all up before we could even see one.

  5. Found your post at Tidy Mom. I've always wanted to try and grow strawberries. Not sure if they'll grow in Oklahoma. Do you have any issues with critters/bugs?

  6. My experience with strawberries has been that they attract rabbits and the rabbits enjoy more of them than I did. So for now I just buy them and enjoy them myself. One of these days I'll get back to growing them. We do have a few wild raspberry bushes.... get about enough for a pie each year.
