I feel most at peace when I am gardening. I love to plant and watch them grow, nurse them until they flourish.
In 2009, my brother brought with him a bunch of Dragon Fruit stalks / plant from the state of Texas. At the time they looked like stalks of cacti. Nevertheless, we split the bunch and I took three stalks for myself.
I planted the Dragon Fruit stalks in a pot and set the pot where there is most sun in my backyard. Dragon Fruit plants / shrubs like a lot of sun and heat. Besides remembering to water them every few months, I didn't really tend to them like I do other plants.
But, after a few minutes of flipping through some photos and reading, I was disappointed to find out that the Dragon Fruit flowers only bloom at night, then wilt immediately by morning. Knowing this, I know I will never get to see the first flower bloom.

DeleteI have never tasted dragon fruit, but would imagine you would be extremely happy to see one coming about thanks to your own nurturing and also you would feel a connection to previous happy memories of enjoying this fruit. Enjoy, you deserve it.

Well, S.S, you sure wouldn't be likking it if some dragon fruit flies showed up eating your prized fruit. Does the fruit sort of look like bananas?

ReplyDeleteI tried dragon fruit once in a restaurant. It was okay but not all that exciting.
That sounds about right how you feel about the taste. There are a lot of dragon fruits that taste "okay." It is hard to find the perfect dragon fruit with sweetness and great texture.
DeleteI agree with IcyBC, your happiness is in seeing what you've nutured. I think this is why I like my container-style gardening. Of course, I haven't done this in a few years, but I do recall how estatic I was to see the first fruits of my labor.

I think dragon fruit looks a lot prettier than the way they taste. The perfect dragon fruit of course tastes great...but it is hard to find the perfect one.
DeleteI would say that the dragon fruit tastes like hummm, a cool light jelly, but not a soft jellie, it is more on the crunch side.
You are happy to see that it has sprouted fruit..soon it will be turning read. They sell dragronfruit in the markets here nearly all year round. I buy them off and on.. they make great fruit salads/ cake toppings.

Yes, the plant is amazing that it broke in some places, and I cut some of it off already, and yet, it still flowers and fruit like nothing phases.
