Grasshopper: Want Privacy?

This Green Guy came home from the park with Dustin one day. He crawled out from Dustin's backpack to greet us, so we put the Green Guy out on the back porch but he didn't want to go anywhere.
So I started snapping some pictures.
In reviewing the pictures, I noticed that he was doing something... What was he doing in the right hand side picture below?

It looks as if he was letting out something... I thought, wow, he could at least move to the grass or somewhere more private? Smiles.

I looked him up to see if he was a grasshopper? He supposed to have wings, but it looks like his wings are currently very short.

Thanks for stopping by today.

  1. I'm sure he wasn't too thrilled with his jaunt from the locale in which he originally came, Amanda. That is too funny. I'll be 66 tomorrow and you have just given me my first shot of a grasshopper going potty!

  6. Well, it's not every day you get to witness a nature call for a little green insect. He doesn't look like the grasshoppers I am familiar with, but then there are so many varieties of different species....

  7. That sure is a pretty critter. I like that color of green. Look up katydids. It may be one of those. I'm thinking they are related to grasshoppers.

The katydids that get on some of my daylily blooms every year do not eat enough to do harm to the plants. The information I found online confirmed that they are not a danger to plants.

  12. Those are really cool shots. I have to agree with CG Sue, that is a katydid. They are a type of grasshopper. I'm wondering if it is getting ready to lay eggs.

  14. @Krislin Neo, Ting (Syracuse Pike)The guy is supposed to be a certain way, at least with wings. Any how, he is definitely missing them now. Thanks for the award, appreciate that you recognized me.

  17. @Judy Sheldon-WalkerYes, I am so confused with all these critters and their varieties. That is one for the animal lovers. I love his color though.

  18. @Corner Gardener SueI looked it up Sue, and there again are so many varieties. He does resemble the katydids much more than grasshopper, but then again, the wings are missing which makes him very different.

  20. @betchaiHe is a cross, if you look up grasshopper images he is very similar. There are also pictures of the katydids which are so different from this guy too. Their bodies are much rounder.
