Unique Scholarships and Financial Aid

A neighbor was spring cleaning and in his trash pile was this beat-up bamboo, wicker table. I saw it, loved it and carried it home. It gave character to my backyard even with it being worn, and rough. Sometime ago, another neighbor was giving away all sorts of nick-knacks, from garage door parts to white paint spray can. Somehow the two came together in my mind. So the table and the white paint had an appointment with me and Dustin last weekend when he came home for a break from college.

We sprayed the first coat while looking up pre med scholarships, since he thought he might want to go into the medical field. He said he wanted to impress me and make me proud, but he wasn't sure if he could go through with it. I told him he has plenty of time to decide and it's okay to be undecided for now. It doesn't matter to me as long as he is happy.

He talked about how a couple of the students in his chemistry study group had received scholarships for left handed people. We didn't even know this program existed. As a matter of fact, we found some interesting scholarships that might be great possibilities for Dustin on the website while we waited for the paint to dry.

It was nice to have Dustin visited last weekend for Luna New Year 2011. I liked that he was able to help me with this table. We ended up spraying a lot of the river rocks in the backyard too, but it sure was worth it, since the table turned out pretty good.

He didn't want to go back to his dormitory when the break was coming to an end, even though he has a very nice room. It is little, but brand new. He had a choice either this building, which is dedicated to students who are studying African culture, or he could have a room shared with two other students. He chose to have his own room and to be in this building. He made many friends, and quite a few of them had received african american scholarships.

Speaking of learning, I found three awesome E words on yourdictionary.com that I thought was worth sharing this week.

Ellipsis – An ellipsis is a series of periods used to trail off… See? It works well in writing when conversations die down, or even in online chats when a person doesn’t know what else to say.

Euphemism – This means a dirty or inappropriate word replaced by a more acceptable one. It’s why we say, “Oh, darn!” instead of... well... you know.

Expletive – An expletive is a useful word used in sentences when the verb comes before the subject. For instance, “there aren’t any people here” uses the expletive “there.” An expletive is also a word that we use instead of a euphemism: instead of “Oh, darn!” we would say—well, you know.
