I have attended a few vocational schools and college. I completed my military photo journalism class and was allowed to be a journalist for about 2 months. I took criminal justice in college and was a corrections officer for 7 years. I also took accounting classes and pattern making classes. I have used both skills on occasion. Often I wonder what the point was in some of studies but what we learn is always an asset.
ReplyDeleteYes. I agree. Sometimes we wonder as we are trying to figure things out, what we are doing certain things for. But, even if we only use it sometimes, the lessons and the trainings are there to stay.
Deletei attended college and graduate school, i attended some culinary arts session ( i thoroughly enjoyed it) because i love cooking and baking, other than these, i could not remember any. i kind of, though i was not trained to be a teacher, but i use the skills and knowledge i have learned in my teaching.

Delete1. I got my bachelor's degree--2 years at my 1st choice college, then transferred to "not" first choice and graduated. I also went through a professional massage therapy program.
ReplyDelete2. I have used my minor more in my professional life than my major. However, right now I'm staying at home with my kiddos, which no amount of training can prep you for. :-)

ReplyDelete1) Did you attend college or vocational schools and how many? I attended the University of Nebraska right after high school but dropped out before they wouldn't let me back in. Then in the Army I graduated 3rd in my class of 140 some out of my 43 week electronics school.
Later, after being out of college for eleven years I went to night school for eleven years. I received an Associate Degree in Pre-engineering, a Bachelors Degree in Economics, and a Doctor Jurisprudence (Law Degree).
2) Are you still doing what you went to school or trained for? I am retired now. Yes, I worked 17 years as an Aerospace Engineer with my electronics background, at Air Force and NASA facilities (New Hampshire and Houston, Texas).
Then I taught Business Law and other business courses for 22 years at a community college here.
But now I have not earned one cent from working since retiring in 2001.

DeleteWow, you sure did your share of learning and trainings. Eleven years is so long, I would not last. Congratulations, those are amazing accomplishments.
I attended college and then later took a couple of classes in bookkeeping at a vocational school mostly for fun.
ReplyDeleteMy college major was Chemistry and then the bookkeeping but I never worked in either profession. Instead I first worked for a non profit organization and then got into Sales and Marketing.
Funny, I think most of us end up in either sales or marketing. Yet most of us never do what we set out to do when we are in college.
DeleteI took a bartending class back in the day, so I'm licensed to professionally mix drinks in the great state of New York. It was the most fun class and most fun job I ever had. I even published one of the first online bartender guides on the pre-cursor to the internet. Martini, gimlet, cosmo, lemon drop, sex on the beach .... mmmmmmm!
ReplyDeleteWhere are those guides? Bartend-ing is a great skill to have, if you can remember how to mix those drinks you would always be a VIP at the parties.
DeleteI went to college, at 3 different places and 3 different majors, and I also went to vocational school, which I worked in my field for a while. Now, I'm at the point where none of what I've learned apply to my life anymore!

DeleteI took commerce when I was in school and no am not doing what I was studying before. I'm kinda using what I have learned before in marking my worth as a freelance writer..hopefully I'll be able to get some clients this year.
ReplyDeleteIf you like writing, which I think you do from the look of your blog. I believe you will be able to do it well. There are many opportunities online to become a writer for a living.
DeleteI grew up in orphanges so after high school I went to a training school and learned a few skills like baking, sewing, computer studies etc.
ReplyDeleteI still wanted to go to college. No one to pay for it, so I attend even classes at colleges after work to get my credits.
I still need to finish. I still want to study the same thing I've always wanted to as a child.
Now I'm not doing what I want to do. I will.
If you still have the dream, the opportunity will eventually show itself to you.
