Would you believe that seaweed contains more fiber than vegetables and more protein than meat? Shocking isn't it? It is even said to have more calcium than milk. Seaweed is a key intake in Japan.

I have packed seaweed for camping trips before, and they were delightful. Perhaps there is something about being outdoors, and in nature that gives me the urge to eat healthy too. Camping and camp fires are not exactly the ideal situation for gourmet meals, so I would pack as much ready to eat food as I can. Other great reasons to pack seaweed for camping trips are: it can stay fresh in the cooler for a few days, and its compactness makes it easy for storing.

I consume seaweed for pure pleasure, which is the love of the taste. However, now that I know its health benefits, I will be sure to spoil myself a little more. You could buy the medium grade seaweed in a Korean, Japanese, or Asian market, although you must consider the different types of seaweed and grades. The ones I normally buy in the stores are pre-packed and most likely not the premium grade. Plus, I wouldn't know if I am getting high or low grade anyhow, because I can’t tell the difference yet. I haven’t attempted to make seaweed from scratch because there is more complications than a novice like me would want to handle. For now, the ingredients below are how they come and I would top it off with some Tabasco sauce and lemon juice.

Ingredients: 150g Wakame, 10ml Rice wine vinegar, 10ml Sesame oil, ½ tsp White sesame seeds, ½ tsp Black sesame seeds, ¼ tsp Chili flakes, Salt. Seaweed is delicious with Sushi or just by itself. You can top it off with Tabasco sauce and some lemon juice.
