Allergies Starting Late in Life?

I never had allergies until a couple of years ago. Maybe I did, but didn't know? No, not in this case. I have a lemon tree on the side of our house. For years it has never bothered me.

A couple of years ago, it decided to attack and gave me the itches like you would not believe. The scratching was hard to avoid, but even if I didn't scratch, my chin, neck and chest would swell and turn red.

It was pretty bad. I kept washing my face, neck and wiping my chest because I figure it is probably on my skin - the pollen?
Nothing helped, so I had to go see my doctor. Wow - I would consider this drastic since I only go see my doctor when I have to.
Long story short, my doctor prescribed two types of creams, one for my face and the other for my neck and chest - which is the stronger of the two. It took a week and a half of religiously putting these creams on until the itching, swelling and redness went away.

Did this ever happen to you?
