Which Sleepaway Camp Is Best For Your Child

Choosing the perfect sleepaway camp for your child is imperative to the return on investment that you and your child experience. This is a challenging situation for many parents and children to figure out each and every year. Many children struggle with sleepaway camps, and many children love them. It is all about selecting the right sleepaway camp that will cater to your child’s needs through out the course of the summer. Some of the most important elements to selecting the perfect summer camp for your child is in finding the right type of camp, the right size of camp, the perfect location of camp, and the cost of the camp fitting within your budget. These are all imperative to your child’s success with his or her camping experience this upcoming summer.

There are a variety of different types of summer camps that are out there. Some are geared toward music, others focused on sports, either way it is important to collaborate with your child on this decision. The worst thing that you could do is send your child on a summer sleepaway camp experience that focuses on activities that are simply not of interest to him or her. There are a variety of sleepaway camp activities that your child will be able to participate in, and it is important that each one of them is of interest to your child through out the whole summer. Another big element to finding the perfect sleepaway camp is to know what size of camp with be preferable to your individual child. Some children really love being in large groups of people where they can meet tons of new potential friends and be the outgoing social butterfly that he or she is all summer. Other children prefer a smaller, more intimately sized group of children so that he or she can receive special attention. Each child is different, therefore, you must ask your child what he or she prefers and listen to his or her input. Take what your child has to say in to consideration. A summer camp that is also a sleepaway camp is a large investment. The last thing you would want to happen is to invest all of this money in to an experience that your child will not even enjoy.

Another huge element to enrolling your child in to a desirable summer camp is to find the perfect location of the sleepaway camp. If you think that there is any possibility that your child will want to come home at any point during his or her stay, then it would be wise to search local camps for your child this up coming summer. However, on the other side, if your child is more independent and he or she would likely not want to come home, then you can look at solutions for summer camps that are further away. Finally, and probably most important of all, you have to make sure to be searching summer camps that fit within your personal budget. There are summer sleepaway camps that are made to tailor to all different types of budgets and financial situations. If you are interested in a specific type of camp, before presenting this particular camping experience to your child, you will need to assess your personal budget and make sure that it fits within your personal budget. There is no sense in getting everyone’s hopes up if it is not financially feasible.

If you are looking for the perfect summer camp for your child to sleepaway at this summer then you will have to take the right type of camp, the right size of camp, the perfect location of camp, and the cost of the camp fitting within your budget in to consideration.

  1. This is a very personal and difficult decision for a parent to make. We are not ready yet to have our children attend a sleepaway camp, but maybe someday!

    1. It is a very difficult decision for parents. I am not so ready now, but when Trinity gets older, I definitely think she would beg me to go.

  5. These are great tips! I'm such a helicopter parent, I've never sent my kids away to camp but they did spend time at Grammie's this summer and they had a blast! I'm sure they'd love camp, too.

  6. My daughter has always been the social butterfly! She started going to sleepaway camp when she was eleven. I only let her go because I was very close to some of the others who were allowing there children to go, and it was close to home, and very highly recommended. She went every year since, and then as she got to be an older teen she worked on staff as clean up crew, then was a jr counselor and the past year senior counselor. I always loved camp and she does too! My two youngest 6 and 8 have not been yet, and they are way more attached to home so most likely will be a while before they go! I think it really depends on circumstances....

  7. So far we've just done day camps. I have a 5 and 7 year olds. They are still pretty little. They did enjoy an acting day camp and my older one did a hiking, archery and more camp. He was dirty and tired every day. I know he enjoyed it.

    1. I wouldn't think that Singapore is a place that would foster this kind of activity. I was there this year and it is a very different living environment.

  10. Overnight camps are a huge step for a parent to take. Personally when I sent my kid off for the first time, I was really nervous and worried about letting him go. It lasted a week and I can never forget his face when he saw me to pick him up. It really depends on the age group, I wouldn't send a kid away until he is 15+.
