How Can Universities Create Memorable Impression on Student?

How can universities leave a lasting impression on students?

As thousands of students across the UK approach the end of their university studies, they'll not only be looking to their immediate future - whether that involves finding a job, going travelling or something else - but also reminiscing about their time as an undergraduate. As such, now is the time for universities to do everything in their power to leave a great lasting impression among soon-to-be graduates.

Of course, students will finish university with fantastic memories about the friends they've met, the fun nights out they've had and the skills that they have developed. However, it is worth giving undergraduates a physical memento of their university life. This is where promotional products come into their own. Whether these are given away for free or made available to purchase, they can ensure students will look back at their time at university with fond memories long after they have graduated.

As mentioned before, students will hopefully already have a fantastic impression about your university, but also worth considering is research carried out by the British Promotional Merchandise Association, which shows 56 per cent of people claim to have developed a more positive opinion of a brand/organisation that has provided them with a promotional product.

There are many ways that you can distribute promotional gifts, though it's perhaps an idea to get individual departments within your institution to hand out goody bags to students on their courses at the end of term. Doing so means you can customise the products you give out to make them really relevant to the recipient, whether you choose to print their name on it, the course they have studied or something else.

Graduation ceremonies are also a fantastic time to issue students with promotional products. These events are attended by thousands of undergraduates (not to mention their parents and other relatives) so they offer an excellent opportunity to leave one final reminder that your institution is a wonderful place to study.

Alternatively, you might want to offer a range of promotional merchandise. Selling products either online or at a university shop could prove to be a great source of income for your institution. Pens, teddy bears mugs and embroidered clothing like polo shirts and fleeces are particularly popular in university shops.

Whatever promotional products you choose, make sure that your university's logo or emblem is clearly visible. This will help to improve brand interaction and ensure that the recipient will be reminded of your organisation each time they use the item.

Choose goods that can be used outdoors - such as promotional travel mugs and umbrellas - and you'll discover brand exposure will increase even further. As the recipient walks down the street or gets on a train or bus with your products in hand, they'll be subtly displaying your marketing information to members of the public, thus creating a brilliant impression about your institution among a much wider audience.

  1. I wish my college had done something like that!

    1. Yes. Me too. That would have been a nice souvenir. I can't remember that they gave us anything free at all. :-)

    2. There is so much they can do, including the mug that don't cost very much but would be remembered for a long time.

  3. Having a memorial product helps, but I think the experiences and new friends will stay with them for the rest of their life!

    1. Absolutely true. The memories certainly can't be bought, and that would be most precious.

  4. What an interesting question. When I graduated from college, I received a little plastic laminated diploma. That would have been fun to received something special.

    1. Yes. That is pretty special I think. We didn't get anything like that even.

  5. I think that study has a lot of potential - not about just handing out merchandise imprinted with school branding; but about the what, when and where of how those handouts are given. I promise that when I was in college, I wanted every cheap t-shirt, water bottle, umbrella and notebook given away with my colleges insignia on it. I want those things now as well. Well, maybe not the water bottles, because those are too too cheap, the brand needs to be stepped up on those. Giving away something the person can use and reuse makes a resounding impression, and not just out in the middle of the campus concourse.

    1. How it is given, and what is on it, what it represents is a major component to the gift.

    2. Yep. Now a days they don't have to be very expensive, just that they are usable.

  6. I did not go to college, but had I gone I am sure I would have enjoyed getting a memorable gift of the time I spent there. But like someone else mentioned, memories for myself, would be most likely tied to friendships I made, and other more personal things rather than a gift.

    1. Most people get the ring. I think it should be something that is good for general use. Like a desk accessory. Jewelry go out of style too quick. That is why most people ended up throwing their rings in a box.

  7. I think my son would have appreciated something from his college. Even if it was just for the moment.

    2. I went to a small college so when I graduated. The school gave all of us a pin. I thought that was nice, but it didn't go with the outfits I wore. LOL. A travel mug or something like that would have been nice. Great suggestions.

    1. Yes. Although it is hard to know everything about the college. A lot of parents do a great job with research, but I wonder sometimes if it is enough.
