Top 7 Ways to Save Money While Shopping Online - Thursday Two Questions #123

Top 7 Ways to Save Money While Shopping Online

Shopping online is the easiest way to obtain the best price. If you have a personal computer, it can do all the leg work for you. You can stay put and yet conducting powerful transactions in a matter of minutes. Are you an online shopper? I personally do not enjoy driving from one place to another, besides doing the groceries, I buy most things online.

There are ways you can save even more money shopping online besides the obvious, of saving gas and time from the actual driving around. I like to share with you today how I have been drawn to shopping online each and every day. I have grown to enjoy it more and more since I have learned the Top 7 Ways to Save Even More Money While Shopping Online.

  • 1-Save money shopping online by using coupons. Before you click on that buy button, find the coupons for the items you are about to buy from online coupon websites such as couponraja.com. When you find a coupon website that offers a variety of merchandise and that you can frequent, use it every time before you make a purchase. Look for coupon websites that are organized and has easy navigation. It is half the battle when all the coupons you might ever need from banks to merchandise is easy to spot. One stop for shopping for coupons will not only save you a lot of money, tons of time, but they will also make your online shopping experience a lot more pleasant.

  • 2- Save money shopping online by using rebates. You can save money by taking advantage of the rebate offers. Many times the merchandise will be further discounted after you have purchased the product. The rebates are usually promotions from the manufacturers. They offer incentives to the merchants to promote their products, and in turn the merchants will then extend the promotions to their customers. With the sophisticated ways that some merchants now keep track of your rebate status electronically, it is practically painless to fill out the rebate forms.

  • 3- Save money shopping online by using cash-back websites. You can earn money by using cash back websites. Basically, you will get a small portion of the money back for buying from that seller. Before you buy, check to see if the seller participates in the cash back option. Thousands of online merchants participate in the cash back programs at ebate. Chances are the merchandise you are trying to purchase is from a website that does offer cash back. This is just another reward for shopping online to stretch your hard earn dollar.

  • 4- Save money shopping online by participating in online competitions. I don’t need to tell you this as most of you already know about the giveaways sites and the sites that run promotions based on random picks. Competition sites are giveaway sites, in other words, they essentially are competitions that you enter to win a product, voucher, certificate, or discount and will be picked randomly to win (x) amount of dollars or a product to try. Most times the winner will receive the items at no charge, FREE since the manufacturers are the sponsors. I have won a few contests and many of you would know that already.

  • 5- Save money shopping online by using price comparison sites. There are quite a few comparison sites that you should check before clicking the buy button. I always have to feel confident that I am getting the lowest price online. Price comparison websites will list the merchants and the prices for you to at least see if you are currently getting the best price. This is one of the most important clicks that you will make when shopping online.

  • 6- Save money shopping online by using the seller's Facebook or Twitter accounts. Most times the merchants will post discounts and promotions on their Facebook pages or their Twitter accounts to entice the followers, or customers. If you are buying from them anyway, why not take advantage of their offers? It is just a click away.

  • 7- Save money shopping online by checking for FREE shipping before you buy.  Be careful at the check-out that the shipping is included. If not, either check back on the coupon sites for a free shipping promo code, or at the check-out to see what their shipping minimum is. You should then calculate whether the shipping is worth purchasing online or not. Although you should consider the tax advantage. If you live in the United States, and live in states with high taxes like me, it might be worth it to pay the shipping and not the taxes.

  • Above are just a few tips for you to consider when shopping online. Most of us are high on savings because we need to be careful with our budgets. Some of us consider ourselves too smart to be paying full price, while others just simply want to save more for our retirement. Whatever your reasons might be, I hope these tips will help you SAVE when you are shopping online.

    2. I do not think i can add anymore from the savings tips you mentioned about shopping online, you definitely know more about this than I do, haha. Yes, for me, free shipping is a must. However, when I am in a hurry, I use the cheapest price online and go to the store and let them price match, they usually do.

      1. I know what you mean when time is a factor. I have definitely been guilty of the "just do it" purchase.

    3. I haven't purchased anything online in a long time, in fact I think the last time was when I purchased my college books and I compared prices. I got them very reasonable. You have provided very good tips and I will be referring back to them.

Free shipping would be a selling point for me, especially since I used to sell on e-bay and know that is one way to make up the difference in price when you don't get the bid you would like.

      1. A penny save is a penny earned. I understand what that's like having to purchase books for my son now.

    4. I try to buy used items on eBay. About half of my golf clubs were purchased on eBay, many of them new. I paid $15-25 each for used and new clubs that would have cost almost $200 each new.

Like you, I try to get free shipping and also watch the adds closely and watch for specials. Right now I have a 50 cent bid on a book I have shopped books stores for a low price of $19.95. I expect to get the book. This one doesn't sell very fast.

    5. The only thing I have purchased online are photobook vouchers, vitamins for the kids and antivirus software. Free international shipping and 60% discount off are the attractions for me.. if it is a digital product then will look out for those 50-60% disc on black friday etc.

    6. Those are some really good tips.
I shop around online but usually wind up at Amazon.com. Since I am a Prime member I get free two day shipping on most orders. Their annual fee may sound high but considering I also stream free movies from their site it is very reasonable.
I also get cash rewards or discount from Amazon and other online sites I regularly shop at. But if I do find a better deal elsewhere I will take it.

    16. This post is very informative for people like you, I am sure it is very convenient. However, i have not yet that habit, and am a bit reluctant for some unscrupulous on-line bad elements.

    17. I nearly always search and see if I can find a coupon online before I buy something! It just takes a few minutes and is worth googling.

One other way to save money online is to buy more than one thing I need at a single site to save on shipping (provided it's a single retailer site--if it's somewhere like etsy or Ebay or even in some cases Amazon, this only works if you're buying from a single retailer on that site). Many sites have a high shipping rate for the first item, even if its something small, but extra items don't cost anything more to ship, or just cost a little more per item. So, if I'm getting one thing at a site, I always check to see if there are other things I need there too.
