Bad Haircut Blunt Short Bangs - Thursday Two Questions #115

I've been to this stylist before. Although last time it wasn't quite what I had in mind, it was adaptable. Last week I came in with a photo. We talked a couple of times about what I wanted. He repeated everything I said back to me flawlessly, and then he began.

He took the first cut at my bangs. I looked up and said: "I need them textured too..." As my front hair fell on my lap I knew...I was dead meat. There will be no texturing from this point on. I think he knew too that he had cut too much off my front hair. We both watched my bangs sprung up above my eyebrows.

At this point he tried to cover-up and said things like: "oh, you have curls in your hair" "you have a cowlick". "your hair has been parted this way for so long, you will have to train it again" All I could think about was, how am I going to fix this mess? My bangs look like my house broom. I couldn't wait to swish it, or get it off my forehead. He continued chopping the sides and the back of my hair. I supposed he thought by making the rest of my hair shorter, my bangs would somehow look longer.

I am so doomed. I look like a dork. I have a bowl on my head. If I move them to the side they look ok. But we had a birthday party to go to, so I decided to clip them back. It was the best look for now until it grows again.

Don't be fooled by these photos. I had a lot of make-up on to divert you from the hideous haircut. I had also spent an hour of pulling and tugging at my hair so that it would lay decent for the photos. But if you look at the top photo, you can see one side is shorter than the other, in length and layers, very obvious. And the bangs are cut so deep and so short that if I didn't have my eyes rolled back, it would not be below my eyebrows.

  1. Amanda, it does not look b t the way you wanted, it still looks fine.

    1. Decades ago when I didn't know any better, I was a teenager, I got my hair permed because everyone else was doing it. The problem was I have naturally curly hair so when I got the perm done, not only was my scalp burned but my hair looked like a tumbleweed. I remember coming home and my Mom taking one look at me with tears in her eyes :)

    2. I never went back again but I did find a stylist that I liked and I've been with her ever since, about 40 years. She sometimes makes mistakes with uneven cuts etc... but I've been with her so long that the mistakes are rare.

    1. I have had some bad hair perms and cuts in my life, so this isn't the first time. The difference is, now that I am older I've learned to just work with what I have instead of crying about it.

  2. maybe I am fooled by your photo, because I did not see the flaw, you look so gorgeous, and love to see that so chic and sophisticated look.

    1. Yes, you are fooled. I don't look like that all the time with this cut. That is what photography can do, it isolates the moment we want it to. Thanks for the compliment though.

  3. My first Army haircut was in the PX Barber Shop. I told him I needed it short (I was a recruit with Elvis hair). When I got back the drill sargeant said it was not short enough, go back and get it cut shorter.

I told the barber what happened. He said, okey, he would FIX it. Well, he FIXED me, good. I had wavey hair on top. Like a washboard spot in the highway.

It passed the sargeant's test this time but I would have looked much better if I had picked another barber and paid another 35 for a new haircut.

BTW, I think your bangs are still too long. Mrs. Jim has hers cut not so that it can be spiked but she hasn't done that yet. Her bands only go to the middle of her forhead. Half of her ears are covered though.

    1. Haha. I know what you mean when you said that he fixed you. This guy fixed me for good too.
My bangs are long to some people, I can see that. I don't like my forehead showing that much - see.

  4. Hope your hair grows out and that you can get it restyled soon. I have had bad hair cuts before and I had to get it re cut again a 2nd time.

    1. Oh believe me. I went home and try to restyle it. Even it out myself right away. Can't wait until it is long enough for me to texture the bangs.

  6. I had bad stylists wherever I go, so I don't go anymore. There were times when I come home from the hair salon and just cried..

I like your new look though. It is quite cute and refreshing. I think when you get used to the new style, it will be less irritable!

    1. thanks sis. I think that is one of the reasons why I became a stylist. I wanted to make people happy, not leave them crying.

  7. When I was a teenager, I got my first perm. It was horrible! My hair is really fine. The stylist left the perming solution in too long, which made me look like I had an afro. Being a white chick this didn't look so cool, if you know what I mean. I looked ridiculous! :(

    1. I have had a couple of afros myself. With Asian hair, it can really get big. Imagine that. Glad those days of perming are over.

  8. First you are beautiful and I hope you find away to rock it how you like it.

But I just hate when stylist be arrogant about what they think we would like better. Or just not be careful and ask queations along the way.

I've had bad stylist before. I didn't say anything, but I cried. Went home and washed my hair and styled it myself.

I've not been to a salon in almost 5 years now.

    Did you say anything?

    1. I did not. I just walked out. I didn't want to make a scene. I know well enough that it won't change anything and it doesn't matter after the fact. The hair will grow, people make mistakes, it was my unlucky day.
I know what you mean about stylists being arrogant, I think he was a little too confident in his work, but it wasn't really good at all.

  9. I do know what you're going through. I had this experience when I wanted sweeping bang. More than two hours sitting in her chair and paying her a lot of money for a bad hair cut, bad bang, shorter than what I wanted over all. At least she knew I wasn't happy and offered a tip on how to survive the time until it grows back. It's harder when you had a male; this species seem to have a hard time facing mistakes and will cover it up by excuses or over confidence in your case. I will even demonstrate the tip for you on 'face time'.

But I like it, it's a playful, youthful look on you. Maybe you should name it "favorite mistake"? :)
