Thursday Two Questions #70 Hardwood or Carpet Flooring?

Happy 70th Thursday Two Questions! My previous post was about the flooring in my house The Idea of Hardwood Flooring, if you feel like reading some flooring drama.
I prefer more hardwood in our house, especially around the high traffic areas because it is easier to clean for me.

Not everyone thinks so, but I rather mop the hardwood floors than steamed-clean the carpets. I have done both, and carpets just doesn't stay looking good as long as hardwood flooring. It seemed I cannot ever get a vacuum cleaner that is powerful enough for the spots on the carpets. There is just isn't enough power in those steam shampooing vacuums to clean out all those spots, sometimes I wonder if it lost its industrial bearings.

Anyhow, I will get right to the Thursday Two Questions now and get your opinions on it.
Have a wonderful week!

  1. You are right that it is much easier to clean hardwood floors but I prefer carpeting because it's just warmer.

I have carpeting except for the kitchen and bathroom where there is tile.

  2. I have mostly hardwood floors. I cannot afford to take the rest of the carpeting up, but it is a goal. Carpeting holds dust and allergens, doesn't last long and is high maintenance. Give me some hardwood or vinyl flooring.

  3. I love hardwood floors because as you said they are so much easier to clean. Right now we have carpet in most rooms. I want to remove the carpet from all the bedrooms however and replace it with hardwood.

  4. I like your post and meme. I'm trying the meme for the first time this morning.

    1. More hardwood. Where it shows it looks so much more elegant! It is harder to keep up because it shows pet hairs and stuff they drag in like dead grass leaves.

    2. About 50/50. Carpet in the bedrooms where it feels better in the winters rather than the cold wood flooring. Hardwood in the living areas. Also have tile in the baths, kitchen, and utility rooms. [Guess that makes it 45/40/10 doesn't it?]

  5. In this house, I'd prefer new carpet all the way through, except for the kitchen and bathrooms. The insulation isn't all that good in our home. The non-carpet room's floors are so frigid in the winter, so at least the carpetted rooms aren't difficult to walk on. Our home is in dire need of new floor covering, but to be honest, I believe we shall wait until we move. Hopefully, this will be something we can do in the very near future. I'm talking about 2-years top! In our next home, the type of flooring will depend largely on how well insulated that house is. I do love the idea of hardwood, though.

  6. I would prefer hardwood to carpet as they clean better. We have tiles throughout the house though.

  7. Hardwood floors all the way! Carpet can be a big allergen and hides dirt very well. We have carpet in our bedrooms and hardwood floors or tile everywhere else.

  8. I like hardwood floor since it is easier to clean, and less maintenance!

  9. Hi S.S. ~~ I like your questions today.

    1. There is a place for both. Where bare feet must walk in the cold, carpet. That is our bedrooms and by default, we haven't changed it yet, the upstairs game room.

    2. Wood floors in the living room, dining room, Mrs. Jim's music room, and the inside hallway.
Carpet in the bed rooms and upstairs game room.
Tile in the kitchen, bathrooms, mud room, entry hall (granite tiles), and the back porch.

BTW, my first comment from this morning must have gotten lost. My computer has been acting up as of late that way.

  10. Wood is definitely easier to clean. We haven't been able to do all the floors in our house so far, but we've stripped all the carpets from the previous owners. We have the upstairs all done, though. It's all stripped-back wood.
My husband is asthmatic, so this makes even more important for us to have wood.

  11. I MUCH prefer hardwood floors to carpeting because of my long-haired animals - but, of course I am living someplace with Wall to wall carpeting!

  12. I definitely want my high traffic areas to not have carpet and that includes bathroom and kitchen.
I'm used to concrete or linoleum everywhere, so I wouldn't mind hardwood or concrete.

We have carpet, concrete/tile and linoleum.

Hope you have a lovely weekend!

  16. @JimSounds like a plan to me. Yes, definitely tile in the bathroom and laundry room is a good idea too.

  17. @Cathy KennedyI think we have the same idea about moving or remodeling. It seems like once you start with a project, it keeps expanding.

  18. @Dominique@Dominique's DeskTile is so cold in the winters, but heck, if someone cleans my carpet, I would have all carpets.

  19. @KatieBugIt is really scary how much stuff the carpet hides and keeps in. Have you ever shook a rug? Yuk!
